Devon was an amazing waiter. He always cheek up on us and explained everything in a welcoming mood. The food honestly was disappointing . The burger meat was too little, the bread too much and too starchy. If you pay 28 dollars for a burger, I feel like it should be equivalent to the price. The one redeeming factor was the steak. Hawaiian steak medium was a nice little treat that tasted like Korean bbq. Ambiance was nice quite proper and formal. Be aware they only seat 4, and you’re not allowed to be on the phone while eating.

One of our most favorite places to dine when we are in Houston. You must try the grilled artichokes and the prime rib sandwich. I promise you won't be disappointed! I also adore the kale salad with the peanut dressing - so good!!

I've enjoyed dining at J. Alexander’s & Houston's restaurant, now known as Hillstone, for many years. While I find the food to be just okay, their service is exceptional. It's clear that their training program epitomizes hospitality. I particularly appreciate how the hostesses walk more slowly when escorting older adults to their tables, rather than rushing. The staff is always present on the floor, smiling as they move about, even when they don't have tables to attend to. Each server greets guests with a friendly "hello" as they arrive. Lastly, I genuinely appreciate when servers carry a crumber in their apron for cleaning off tables—call me old school, but I think it's a nice touch! Everyone here seems truly happy to assist with any questions.

Hawaiian steak was legit. Very rich but definitely good. Wife enjoyed her salad. Spinach dip was just okay for me but maybe cos my expectations were too high going in seeing everyone get it and post about it. Solid place nonetheless. But Houston’s restaurant scene is competitive so other places I’d probably go over this.

Hillstone may dress itself up like a high-end dining experience, but what you really get is a cold, joyless atmosphere run by a manager who clearly missed her calling in customer service—because kindness, empathy, and basic decency were nowhere to be found. From the moment we arrived, the female manager’s attitude toward our children was flat-out hostile. Not just a lack of warmth—actual disdain. Her body language, tone, and snide comments made it clear we weren’t just unwelcome—we were being judged for having the audacity to bring kids into her restaurant. It was bitter. It was personal. And it was shameful. We tried to rise above it and enjoy our meal, but even the food couldn’t save the experience. The appetizers? Completely forgettable. Standard spinach dip, bland fried items—nothing you couldn’t get at a Chili’s for a third of the price. The entrees were no better—uninspired, flavorless, and wildly overpriced for what was delivered. This place charges like a fine dining establishment but serves like a chain restaurant that lost its spark. After pushing through a few bites, we realized something: this wasn’t worth our time, money, or dignity. We didn’t finish our food—we walked out. To the manager: whatever personal issues you’re carrying, don’t take them out on paying guests. Especially not families. You’re in the wrong business if basic human compassion is too much to ask. Your cold demeanor, judgmental attitude, and utter lack of grace should be a source of embarrassment—not pride. To everyone else: if you value warm service, good food, or just being treated like a human being, skip Hillstone. There are plenty of places in Houston that understand hospitality. This isn’t one of them.
