Absolutely delicious, clean, authentic Mexican food. Our waiter Jorge was outstanding. The margaritas were fresh and delicious; the beer was ice cold. I had the enchiladas suizas, friends had the beef enchiladas and the chicken mole enchiladas. The mole sauce is outstanding. The queso fundido with chorizo was excellent too. I’m going to send a note to Chris Shepherd - feature restaurants off Antoine! Don’t sleep on Don Jose. Thanks to our friends Laurie and Merrie that recommended this place to us.

Very friendly service, excellent food, a nice place to sit down for a good Tex Mex meal. They make their salsa fresh every day.

This place is horrible I ordered carne asada they put it all in one dish so all the juice was combined in took that back and thought I'd order enchiladas. What a joke, they had soup for cheese and of course it's fake. The chips are old oil flavored. The Mexican rice could have come out of a box. It was horrible. Never, ever, never ever waste your time or money here. I gave it all to the dog.

I've been coming to this restaurant since I was 6 years old. Here I keep coming back at the age of 45. The food has always been spot on. The drinks are fantastic. The staff always greets you with a smile and are very kind. I recommend if you really want some amazing Mexican food with a friendly smile. Then Don Jose's is the place to be.

Ohhh nooo! 💔 Like so many Houstonians, I'm heartbroken to see you close after 52 years. One of my favorite childhood memories I remember at Don José was losing a baby tooth in 1974, when I was just 5 years old, while eating your delicious corn chips! 😊
Over the years, Don José became so much more than a restaurant. It was a place where my family and friends celebrated, laughed, and made memories together. The food was always amazing, the staff always made us feel welcome, and I'll never forget the free Nachos Deluxe at Christmastime.
I sincerely hope this isn't goodbye forever. If you ever reopen to a new location, start a food truck, bottle the hot sauce or better yet publish a cookbook with your recipes and stories, I'll be there to support you.
Thank you for being such a special part of my life and of Houston's history. Wishing your family and everyone at Don José all the very best. ❤️
